DESCRIPTION

The Le Vieux Bourg Moulin-à-Vent 2021 from Domaine Mont-Bessay is a powerful and elegant cru Beaujolais made from old-vine Gamay. Known as the "King of Beaujolais," Moulin-à-Vent produces wines with structure and aging potential, and this cuvée beautifully balances ripe fruit, floral notes, and fine tannins. Complex yet approachable, it represents the noble side of Gamay.

EYE

This wine shows a deep ruby-red color with garnet reflections, rich and brilliant in the glass. Its depth suggests concentration and elegance.

NOSE

The bouquet is complex and refined, offering aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and violet. Hints of spice, peony, and subtle mineral notes add dimension and typicity.

MOUTH

On the palate, it is structured and silky, with ripe fruit flavors supported by polished tannins. The vibrant acidity brings freshness and balance, leading to a long, persistent finish with floral and spicy undertones.

PAIRING

Perfect with roasted duck, coq au vin, or lamb chops. It also pairs beautifully with mushroom dishes, charcuterie, and aged cheeses, and will continue to evolve beautifully over the next few years.

Domaine Mont Bessay

Domaine Mont Bessay is a small, quality-focused estate specializing in expressive Beaujolais crus. With a dedication to sustainable vineyard practices and minimal-intervention winemaking, the domaine produces wines that highlight the unique terroirs of each appellation, with a focus on purity, finesse, and longevity.

Beaujolais

The Beaujolais is a small region of Eastern France just south of Burgundy-Mâconnais and North of Lyon city. The red and rosé wines are made mostly from gamay grapes with vibrant and fruity taste profiles. A little amount of Beaujolais white is also made from the Chardonnay grape. The particularity of the Beaujolais reds, is the fermentation with whole clusters, so called "carbonic maceration" which accentuates the fruitiness of the gamay grape and results in lighter alcohol wines, easier to drink. The region is famous for its "Beaujolais nouveau", which are youthful red wines made on the same year as the harvest occurs. The region is also known for its prestigious 10 villages which are known as crus and showcase different tasting profiles and age-worthy potential.
