Domaine Vendange

Domaine Vendange is a family-run estate located in Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte, at the heart of the Combe de Savoie. Specializing in traditional local varieties, the domaine practices sustainable viticulture and careful winemaking to produce wines that are authentic, precise, and deeply rooted in their mountain terroir.

Savoie

Like the Jura, its direct neighbor, the Savoie region is one of tiniest wine region of France representing only 0.5% of the total French wine production. Some people who stayed at one of many world famous ski resorts from the Haute Savoie, might had the pleasure to discover these lip smaking white and red wines while enjoying a traditional "cheese fondue". It is only recent, that these wines can be found in the US. Tucked away in a narrow valley at the foothills of the Alps, this bucolic, montainous wine region, includes many lakes and river streams but the soils remain poor due to a majour mountain collapse over the fertile valley floor in the 1700's. The vineyards extend from Chambery to the South to Geneva to the North. The Montgranier, an imposant old granitic mountain and also home of the Chartreuse's monks, overlooks the most reknown wine appellation of the region, the Apremont , know for its indigenous mineral white wine variety called Jacquère. There are 22 other varieties to be found in Savoie from Jacquère to Roussanne, Altesse, Chasselas or Chardonnay for the whites, or the indigenous red Mondeuse producing light, fruity and spicy reds along with local Pinot Noir and Gamay. Lastly, Savoie produces sparkling wine which has been recently designated as Crémant de Savoie.
