DESCRIPTION

Carmes de Rieussec 2013 is the distinguished second wine of Château Rieussec, offering a refined and more accessible expression of Sauternes. Crafted from a blend dominated by Sémillon with touches of Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc, this cuvée is aged in French oak barrels to deliver elegant richness tempered by freshness. The wine exhibits luscious apricot and lemon curd flavors, complemented by honeyed nuance and a finely tuned finish — both succulent and lively.

EYE

Deep golden hue enriched with amber highlights, vivid and inviting.

NOSE

Complex and aromatic, it unfolds notes of apricot confit, honey, vanilla, and citrus zest, with a subtle trail of oak spice.

MOUTH

Rich and silky, the palate is driven by flavors of dried stone fruits, citrus peel, and delicate spice, all balanced by vibrant acidity and refined texture. The finish is long, vibrant, and elegantly spiced.

PAIRING

An exquisite companion to foie gras, tarts with dried fruit, or blue cheeses. It also makes a captivating dessert wine to enjoy solo, inviting slow, contemplative sips.

Chateau Rieussec

Château Rieussec, classified as Premier Grand Cru in 1855, is one of the most esteemed estates in the Sauternes appellation. Owned by the Rothschild family since 1984, the property spans nearly 100 hectares of vines with a majority of Sémillon. The estate is renowned for meticulous vineyard selection, state-of-the-art cellar techniques, and artisanal barrel aging, ensuring its wines — including Carmes de Rieussec — epitomize both tradition and refinement.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is the largest and possibly the most famous wine region in France marked by it's rich history beginning in Roman times. Back in 1885, several Châteaux were classified into grand crus with five quality levels which still exist today. As a port town, its unique geography is built around the Garonne, Dordogne and Gironde rivers which have created it's famous left bank (Medoc) and right banks (Pomerol and Saint-Émilion) and the Entre-Deux-Mers (between two "seas" or rivers) regions. 90% of Bordeaux wine is red with artful blending of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot and sometimes malbec. Wines showcase a full range of taste profiles from earthy with strong and dry tannins to softer and smoother with notes of plum, black fruits. There are the go to French wines with red meat dishes.
